"The Diary of a Wimpy Kid" is the first book in the "satirical realistic fiction" series of Jeff Kinney. They book follows the life of Greg Heffey as he tries to survive middle school.

March 19, 2010 was when the film adaptation of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" was released.

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid" first appeared online on Funbrain.com. It was composed of daily entries which were constantly posted until June 2005.

Initially, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" was meant to be for older readers such as adults. However, the Abrams publishing board convinced Kinney that the story would be more appropriate for a younger audience, which prompted him to aim it toward children.

On March 1, 2012, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" received the "Blue Peter Book Award." This was broadcast CBBC, a British kids channel.
